A8 - Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1981 - North Shore News mailbox i a RAS Why were the bears shot? Dear Editor: Four bears were shot Wednesday August 12th, 1981. in. the wooded area . beyond the North Van- couver Cemetery. Not only were they shot, but it took eight bullets to do it. I don't believe in the taking of an animal's life except in self defence and the manner by which they were killed. (eight bullets) will stay in my mind for a long time. Three of the bears were cubs and | watched them play every day for weeks. They swam in the small lake, chased each other and slept in pot holes to keep cool. Very dangerous, wouldn't you say. I don't think that’ the Ministry of Environment should be allowed to send out men to harm or kill the bears at will. Greenpeace has been contacted, but they are too busy with other matters at the moment. Also, the Association for the Protecuon of Fur Bearing Animals who suggested | write you a letter. Maybe, someone might be able to come up with an answer to all the senseless killing of the Canadian bears. All the lame excuses I've been getting up tll now just don’t sit well with me.
