A female cougar was shot by a Fish and Wildlife officer Monday after being seen in the yard of a home at Hayseed Close in the Blueridge area of North Vancouver. Fish and Wildlife were called after a woman had spotted the cougar walking across her property and when later sighted by an officer it was eating a catina with his hounds. The dogs chased the cougar into a tree, where it was shot. North Shore conservation officer Doug Adolph later told the News that the cougar “had a hide full of porcupine quills, had hardly any meat to it and was in very poor health.” It was the first time in more than four years that AS - Sunday News, November 30, 1980 mented: “A cougar is a big concern of ours. They stalk their prey and kids or anyone could be a victim.” Of this particular cat, he said: “It was in very poor shape and was a threat, as far as we were concerned, to the safety of the people of the area. It was getting free meals there of house cats in back yards.
