The more often this lesson is repeated, the stronger our aversion to protest becomes. The Winstonettes Gymnastic Association § in Agincourt has found a well- padded carpet will con- siderably lessen impact. “Since the carpet has been installed, it has cut down on the number and severity of knee and ankle injuries as well as wrist problems,” says Head Coach, David Holmes. “The number of bruises has also declined.” The carpet has also been found to benefit the gym- nasts psychologically. “It looks good and feels soft to them, so they work a lot better on it,” says Holmes. Another benefit’ of the carpet is a considerable cost saving, as crash mats are only required directly under the practise cquipment.
