The report, prepared by Gary Duke & Associates, says the Fullerton Fill and Lower Lonsdale sites are among four possible locations with “the prerequisites of deep water for large ships (70,000 tonnes), possible land for terminal development and road access, although in varying degrees of sufficiency.”’ Don Larson, an organizer with the CRAB Water For Life Society in Vancouver, said the report essentially acknowledges that the new terminal couid be built on the North Shore. “Even this quickly done report funded by the port admits that the basics for another location of love boats does exist,"" he said. “There’s hundreds of millions of dollars that could be going to the North Shore,’’ said Larson, who added that he is sensitive to concerns native groups or others might have about a North Shore Jocation. His group is opposing the port corporation’s proposed plans to locate the terminal on the central waterfront lands adjacent to the existing Canada Place facility. The group fears the new termi- nal will have a negative impact on community activities in: Van- couver’s Portside Park, also known as CRAB Park. But the report concludes that the south shore site would be the best location for a new terminal. The report asserts that the Fullerton site, on the North Van- couver City waterfront between MacKay and Fell avenues, is unaceeptable From both focition and additional-use considerations. “The Lower Lonsdale site (on the old Versatile Shipyards prop- erty east of Lonsdale) offers some potential but the logistics and ac- cess considerations are very strong negatives.” Yet the Lower Lonsdale site is considered the second best option of the four. But’ VPC spokesman Trace Acres said the North Vancouver sites haven’t been considered as viable options for the terminal, He confirmed that the port corporation has an option to buy land on the Fullerton site, But Acres said the interest in buying the Jand has nothing to do with cruise terminal plans. He said YPC has an ongoing mandate to acquire land with commercial marine potential. “Pullerton is one area we would be interested in acquiring,’’ Acres said, Campbell selects C Capilano-Howe Sound MP given health minister portf NEWLY SWORN-IN Prime Minister Kim Campbell has given North Shore MP Mary Collins a high-profile position in the new federal cabinet.
