Wreaths are not
just for Christmas

IT’S always a little sad
when you take down the
holiday decoration on
your front door.

You can boost your spirits
and freshen up the look of
your home by replacing ir with
a beautiful wreath.

These wreaths should be
hung on doors that are partial-
ly sheltered from the rain and
wind. You can decorate the
wreath in any color scheme
that you like. I always recom-
mend spraying it with a sealer
to preserve it throughout the
year.

Materials
* | grapevine wreath form

(14” to 16” diameter) avail-
able ar craft stores and florists;

* 40 stems of salal (available
fresh or dried at florists);

* dried flowers, pine cones,
hydrangea, etc. (for decora-
tions);

© 22 gauge green floral wire;

* glue and glue gun;

© preservative spray (such as
Dri-Seal) available at florists.

wreath, loop an eight-inch
piece of wire to the ring.
Hang the wreath on a nail
where you can easily work on
it.

Cut pieces of salal into six-

~ to eight-inch pieces. If the

salal is fresh vou can still use it
and let it dry on the wreath.
Begin inserting the pieces
of salal into the wreath form.
It’s best to start at one spot
and work in one direction.
Continue filling up the wreath
until it is thick and covered.

Now you can decorate it.

Start with the larger deco-
rations first and equally space
them. Then move to the
smaller decorations. Once you
are satisfied with the look of
the wreath, spray it with the
sealer. Let it dry for 30 min-
utes. One of the nice things
about these wreaths is they
should last six months-if kept
outdoors ina sheltered area.
