the laundry soap, for example,

Unlike most others, however,
it’s more specific about what it is

tants, washing soda, borax, sodi-
um silicate (water glass), and so-
dium sulphate.

There are many cleaning aids
that you can mix together yourself
at home. If you do so, be sure to
follow a recipe, such as one of the
following.

Mixing together likely-sounding
ingredients at random can lead to
the creation of harmful gases.

_ All-purpose cleaner: Mix 4 cup
ef baking soda, % cup white
vinegar and two litres of water.

For tough grease and grime, 2
cup of ammonia can be added,
. but ammonia itself is dangerous if
it is inhaled, so handle with care.

Glass cleaner: Mix white vinegar
in water and use with a chamois.

Oven cleaner: To remove

baked-on spills and grease, scrub
with a paste of baking soda, salt
and water.

Tough spots can be sprinkled
with dry baking soda, Ieft for 15
minutes and scrubbed with a
damp cloth.

Toilet bow! cleaners: Scrub
toilet with toilet brush and a solu-
tion of baking soda and water.

To disinfect, use borax. Let
stand for 30 minutes and scrub.

Rug cleaners: To clean and
deodorize carpets, mix together
two cups of cornmeal and one cup
of borax, ©

Sprinkle on carpets, leave for
one hour and vacuum.

To shampoo carpets, mix %
cup of dishwashing detergent with
% litre of boiling water and let
cool.

Whip the paste into a stiff form
and apply to carpeis with damp
sponge.

Work in small areas and wipe
off suds with a clean cloth. To
rinse, add one cup of white

vinegar to four litres of lukewarm
- water.

ed to assist with the maintenance
