Baptist church celebrates 25 years with special day WEST VANCOUVER Bap- tist Church celebrates 25 years of ministry this year. By Norman Archer Contributing Writer Established in 1921 on the cor- ner of Sth and Duchess, it outgrew its facilities and, under the leadership of its energetic pastor, Rev. Gordon Patch, was moved to its present location on Mathers Avenue in June of 1967. One of the original members, Helen Colpitts, is still active in the church and will be cutting the 25th anniversary cake at the church’s birthday celebration to- day. Special events throughout the day include a skit on the early days, a dramatized bible story and ‘“Winkie’’ the puppet. ‘High Mountain Adventure,” a 90-minute interest-packed pro- gram for children with a myriad of outdoor and indoor events, commences at 10:30 a.m. The main feature of the day will be at I! a.m. when people who were involved in the church 25 years ago will return to par- ticipate. The guest of honor is Rev. Gordon Patch, now living ia retirement in White Rock. His predecessor, Rev. J.C.A. Barton, will also be present. Joseph Billyeald wiil perform an organ solo. Ernest Gallaher, who was the structural engineer for ihe building and is a current member of the congregation, will share stories about some of the hazard- ous experiences during the con- struction of the church. Two other members, Zeke Peters and Nancy Young, will also reminisce. During the lunch hour, a video of the ground-breaking and rais- ing of the sanctuary roof wil! be showm, filmed 25 years ago oy Stu Furneaux.
