Fall footwear focus on comfort “GET REAL’? is the key message for fall fashion, as women focus on comfort and personal style to determine what they wear and why they buy. According to Julie Austin, fashion director for Naturalizer Shoes, ‘‘More than ever, this season's fashion motivators are based on lifestyle needs rather than the latest dictates from Seventh Avenue.’ Short lengths, slim pants, leggings and hosiery put more emphasis on Icgs and shocs. Look for higher, shapely dress shoes for feminine glamour, and booties and shorter shaft boots for more casual pursuits. ® Watch for surprising new ways to use color: monochromatic dressing from head to toe or mixing contrasts for a bold look. Be on a ‘‘red alert’’ as a Potpourri of shades make up this season’s hottest palette. Warm harvest tones, clear lac- quer darks, nature-inspired neutrals and harlequin brights also make a strong showing. e Fashion looks to the past for new inspiration as the °40s, ’50s and ’60s influence shapes, colors and prints. As clothes move away from the body, shoes take on interesting shapes — squared, snipped or softly walled toes, slightly heavier heels, and curved and squared silhouettes. Watch for toplines to shape up, too. ¢ Suedes, snake and croco- dile skin prints, small grains, patent feather and metallic shine make a showing for fall. Detailing is more subtle with color blocking, quilting, metallic touches, lacing and top- or whip-stitching. ® The simplicity and value of dresses are big fall motivators. Footwear and accessories te the look together, while tuxury fabrics and trims add a new twist to basic silhouettes. + CLADDAGH RINGS ¢ CALTIC JEWELLERY - IRISH MUSIC TAPES . « CONNEMARA AND EIRE PERFUMES AND TOILET WATER \ - PATRICK AFTERSHAVE - HOURIHAN - DONEGAL DESIGN # & BLARNEY CASTLE KNITWEAR + DEERSTALKERS - IRISH WALKING HATS: f+ TWEED & TARTAN TIPS, HATS & SCARVES AND MANY, MANY MORE KELTIC TREASURES (FORMERLY IRISH FANCY) ZEs9 West Boulevard, Vancouver © Consumers look to the quality and comfort of updated basics like moccasins, slip-ons and shoe boots. © Fashion's latest hybrid is a mix of luxury and casual — sportswear that’s chic enough for work, yet relaxed enough for weekend wear. Penny mocs, richly detailed skimmers, tailored pumps and ankle boots complete this season’s sophisticated classics. e Plaids, checks, stripes and modern graphics create news this fall. Also causing a stir are velvets, velours, furs, suedes and Knits. Lace, colored satins and metallic mesh add feminin- ity to both footwear and ap- parel. Technology and new detailing contribute to the comfortable, vet sleek "90s at- tirade. Watch for flats and low heels, Tindall toplines, casuals with buitt-in) comfort techno- lozy, soft-touch suede and burter-soft leathers. 264-0255 > ANNOUNCEMENT closes Sept. 2.
