Dear Editor:

What do | think?

This is the question posed by
Mr. Harry Cargo, mill manager of
the Howe Sound Pulp Division, in
costly full page ads in Jeecal news-
papers, including the Morth Shore
News,

Please don’t) iasull my in-
telligence, Mr. Cargo — do you
really need to spend so much
money to determine people's opi-
nions aboul improving air quality
in the Howe Sound area? You
know already what the citizens of
this area think of your Port Mellon
emissions, Or are you conveniently
forgetting or ignoring everything
that Mr. Jacks has said on our
behalf over the last few years?

It is true that since moving to
this area six years ago, 1 no longer
have to sweep up sulphur deposits
from my balcony in the mornings,
for which i am truly grateful, so
your efforts in this direction have
not gone unnoticed. However, we
still have to endure regular, obnox-
ious odors emitted from the Port
Mellon site (quite apart from any
marine pollution evident in the
area). .

It is amazing what you can
become accustomed to — who
needs open windows anyway, let-
ting in cold air?

Just how many ill-health/dceath
related statistics does it take before

Olympic slogan
questioned

Dear Editor:

1 believe that it was a great in-
centive to sports that the Olympic
Flame came here.

What | do not agree with is the
slogan that they tried to pass on
with it.

To be honest, most of us would
agree that it is better to win than
just compete in any game, even if
our winning is just against the time
clock. :

Some of: us would not even
bother to get all our equipment
together and risk much, unless we
had the dream of the ultimate goal
or its equivalent in mind.
