WV ratepayers

hit in-fill plan

THE AMBLESIDE and Dundarave Ratepayers
Association has presented results of a questionnaire
the group says shows widespread opposition to a
proposed in-fill housing policy to West Vancouver

municipal council.

The ratepayers’ group
presented the results of the
survey to council Tuesday,
saying nearly 80 per cent of
those who responded were
against an in-fill housing
policy.

The municipality’s
Housing Study was con-
ducted to examine ap-
propriate types of in-fill, in-
itally for Ambleside and
later expanded to_ include
Dundarave.

Municipal Clerk Doug
Allan, said that when it was
introduced in late spring, it
caused considerable confu-
sion in the public sector, in-
cluding the feeling of some
persons that the study has ac-
tually been adopted by coun-
cil. No further action was
taken on the study at the time
and it was ‘‘left in limbo’’.

The Ratepayers Associa-
tion has spent several months
putting together their public
opinion survey which includ-
ed the distribution of 843
questionnaires.

Association President
E.H. McKay says that the
areas falling under the study
are essentially ‘‘bedroom
communities’’, (single fami-
ly), and ‘‘the people want it

a public meeting on the sub-
ject and has felt that way
since council received its
study in April.

Ald. Dave Finlay said the
ratepayers’ document was
‘‘absolutely what we need’’
adding that it would give
council ‘‘a lot of good food
for thought’’.

Ald. Doreen Blackburn
moved that the survey come
back on to the agenda along
with the = In-fill Housing
Study so that something
could be done about it.

Blackburn said she objected
strongly in April, when the
Study was first presented,
that it did not go to a public
meeting.

Blackburn added that
council would always be deal-
ing with applications for
**spot rezonings’”’ for various
properties instead of viewing
the situation ‘‘in the context
of what people want for the
whole area’’.

Finlay agreed with with the
context of Blackburn’s mo-
tion but also suggested the
accumulated materia! go to
the Advisory Planning Com-
mission for additional input.
