Wright wrong on suites

Mr. Noel Wright seriously mis-
led your readers in his Jan.18 arti-
cle “If leading from behind...’’

In North Vancouver District
there is no intent to persecute il-
legal renters —- only to act on
complaints.

It is stated that democracy is
needed. A set of guidelines was
developed through public meetings
and by a panel of concerned and
knowledgeable residents repre-

The lengthy process of this panel
served as the basis for the current
bylaw.

North Shore residents reached a
consensus on second suites based
on public input and_ rational
argument. Our democratic society
operates with rules — rules that
are fair and applied equally to all.

No, Mr. Wright, there was no
mayor arbitrarily writing bylaws
and Mayor Baker is not
persecuting anyone. Her staff, I

trust, will enforce the bylaw with
fairness to all.

Rather than throwing mud at
our mayors it would be a service to
the community if you would take a
Positive approach. One of the
areas you might explain to your
readers is mixed income coopera-
tive housing programs. Why are
we not seeing such affordable
housing schemes today?
