_ Narcotics past ~ led to sentences NEWS BRIEFS Mindy alert MINDY TRAN, the eight-year-old girl who went missing from the Kelowna area Aug. 17 may have been spatted in West Vancouver. “We have followed up on a few reported sightings of Mindy in West Vancouver,” said Const. Janae Gibson of the West Vancouver Police. “Our members are keeping a watch for Mindy and we are asking the community to familiarize themselves with Mindy’s picture.” Posters of Mindy are being distributed by police and volunteers throughout West Vancouver in hopes that they will assist in her safe return to her parents. Late for court KENNETH HUTCHINSON, the owner of the Avalon Hotel in North Vancouver arrived in court shortly after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Hutchinson is charged with eight counts of sexual assault, but was not present when his case was called in the courtroom. He showed up with his lawyer, J.J. McIntyre, about 30 minutes later. North Vancouver RCMP received a call on Aug. 11 at approximately 12:30 a.m. that a woman had lost her footing and fell over a 120-foot embankment. RCMP, fire department and paramedics responded to the cali and located the woman. She sustained minor injuries to her shoulder and many abrasions to her body. Hiker rescued A SEARCH was conducted on Grouse Mountain Monday by North Shore Rescue looking for 2 37-year- old woman who had become lost while hiking a portion of the Baden Powell Trail. She was part of a hiking group that set out to climb Grouse Mountain after 5 p.m. Twelve searchers spent almost four hours before the woman was found in a creek gully at the 1,300-ft. elevation. She was cold and ' wet but ctherwise in good condition.
