Camp gives sense of the global community CAPILANO COLLEGE is offering a summer camp that gives Japanese and Canadian children a chance to learn about each other while having fun. The Japanese and Canadian children at Camp Horizon share a variety of play and outdoor activi- ties that give them an awareness of themselves as global citizens. Mornings are devoted to cultur- al and language communication and large group games and sports. Afternoons are spent outdoors in activities that include hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, camp- ing-out skills and arts and crafts. Communication games in the evenings help the children under- stand each other's language and culture. The program also includes a swim in an alpine lake and a shopping and dinner excursion to Whistler Village. Camp dates are: Monday, July 27 to Saturday, Aug. 1 (Camp A) and Monday, Aug. 3 to Saturday, Fricay, June The six-day Aug. 8 (Camp B). 15-year-olds, camp, for 12- to takes place at the North Van- couver Outdoor Schoo! at Cheakamus in the Howe Sound corridor. A unique feature of the camps is a brief home s'xy. Canadian families can host one or two Jap- anese children for three days at the end of each camp. The fee includes full room and board, travel from Vancouver to Cheakamus and return, souvenir T-shirt, excursion to Whistler and all equipment rentals. A number of $200 bursaries, subsidized by the Pacific Rim Education Initiative Fund of the B.C. Ministry of Education, are available to Canadian children who meet bursary criteria.
