A Quebec man could be
retried for murdering a
woman and dumping her
body near Lynn Creek 19
years ago.

B.C. Crown counsel is reviewing
Thursday’s Supreme Court of Canada
order to retry Jean Victor Beaulac. He
was convicted in 1981 of killing
Maryanne Costin, then 23, and dumping
her body in a bush area near the creek.
Thursday Canada’s highest court
ruled Beaulac had every right to be heard
by a bilingual court — including a
French judge and jury — which was
something he had officially requested
several times."
His original trial was declared a mis-
trial and he was convicted of murder in
his second trial, which began in October
1990. The decision was overturned by
the Court af Appeal.
During a hearing prior to his third
trial, Beaulac requested a trial in French
as per section 530 of the Criminal Code, .
