New venues make 92 a bigger and better year

PORT DAY '92 on the North Shore waterfront will be
bigger and better than previous years, promises Vancouver
Port Corp. (VPC) director of corporate communications
and North Shore resident Barbara Duggan.

**People should bring their
cameras. On the North Shore, this
will be a very special day,’’ says
Duggan. ‘We have so many new
things this year that we haven't
had before.”’

The May 24 event is only the
fourth time that Port Day has
been held on the North Shore.
Duggan says the popular event has
grown cach year in both attrac-
tions and attendance.

“The initial cequest to hold
Port Day on the North Shore
came from the Pacific Marine
Training Institute (PMTI). It real-
ly began as a partnership between
the port, PMTI and the Cliy of
North Vancouver.”* says Duggan.

“‘Then the marine industry on
the North Shore really got behind
it.”

On the North Shore, Port Day
will once again be held at Water-
front Park and the PMTI. Proba-
bly one of the more popular at-
tractions this year will again be
the free harbor cruises offered
from Waterfront Park, just west

The two vessels providing the
free harbor cruises from the North
Shore this year will be the Con-
stituion and the Gulf Stream.
While the 45-minute guided
cruises, which take people to
both the north and south shores
of Burrard inlet are free, tickets
must first be picked up at a ticket
booth.

**These cruises are very popular.
Virtually every year we end up
running an extra sailing,’’ says
Dugean.

The cruises leave Waterfront
Park every hour for one of the
vessels and every half-hour for
the second vessel.

Another vessel which wiil be
docked off shore will be the Ca-
nadian Coast Guard’s Sir James
