Sun Gold tattoos will go anywhere

But, contrary to popular myth,
this tattoo parlor is not located in
some seedy downtown
neighborhood.

Sun Gold Promotions, as it is
called, is based in Canada’s most
affluent community: West Van-
couver.

The company, which is owned
by West Vancouver native Josie
Lochrich, is the exclusive
distributor of Temptu Temporary
Tattoos. Sun Gold has now open-
ed a subsidiary operation under
the name Temptu Canada.

The company sells temporary
tattoos which can be painted on
on virtually any part of your
body.

Its slogan is: ‘‘We tattoo almost
anywhere.’’

Sun Gold’s general manager,
Leigh Smith, is the Tattoo Queen,
and she has put tattoos in some
unusual places.

“I've had guys come up to me
and ask if I could put a tattoo on
their rear end, and they get really
surprised when I reply ‘‘OK, drop
’em.”

She and one of her girl friends
once decided to visit North Van-
couver’s Queens Cross Pub after
having several tattoos painted on
their bodies.

“The reaction you get when you
have a tattoo is unbelievable,”
says Smith. “Me and my girl
friend had these tattoos put ail
over us for a photo shoot...we
went to the Queen Cross Pub, and
we had guys buying us drinks all
night long.’’

Sun Gold also designs logos and
works at amusement parks.

Loehrich said she once put a
sign in the company’s West Van-
couver office window advertising
Red Dragon tattoos.

‘*,..People thought this was an
actual tattoo parlor. Well the calls
the municipality got were just in-
credible,”’ says Loehrich.

“There was a major furor.
Then a licence inspector came
down and found out we were only
painting on tattoos. He laughed
and told us to continue what we
were doing.”’

She adds that paint-on tattoos
were not readily available in
Canada before Sun Gold Promo-
tions set up shop.

The tattoos last four or five
days and come off with lotion
products. Loehrich says they are
non-toxic and safe.

The paint-on tattoos Sun Gold
produces were designed for the
motion picture industry.

Temptu Tattoos supplied all of
the tattoos used by Robert De
Niro in Cape Fear.
