Canada playing host to flower arrangers THE CANADIAN Garden Coun- cil has news that the World Association of Flower Arrangers (WAFA) has chosen Canada to host the organization from 1990 to 1993. Founded in 198) and first hosted in Great Britain in 1981-84, WAFA has subsequently been hosted and held flower shows in Belgium in 1984-87, and France, 1987-90. Canada was selected as the next host on the strength of Previous international flower ar- ranging competitions sponsored by The Garden Club of Toronto, as part of that club's annual flower shows. At the general assembly in Paris in June 1990, new members repre- senting the national flower arrang- ing organizations of Pakistan, Uruguay and Indonesia were ad- mitted to the association, demonstrating the truly interna- tional interest in this art. The association boasts 150,000 members worldwide, with flower arrangers aitending the Paris show from as far as New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Bermuda, Jasnaica, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Mex- ico, the U.S., and Canada (25 delegates). This means Canadians can look forward to a real top-notch flower show in 1993 — which will be the culmination of the three years of work by the local committee. Leading up to the 1993 flower show, the WAFA organizing committee is planning 2 five-day seminar at the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) in Hamilton/ Burlington, Ontario, this autumn. That seminar will be highlighted by a two-day flower show vith flower arrangers from 16 countries participating. Dates for the show at the RBG are October 1 and 2, 1991.
