This two-year project will in- clude referrals 10 addiction treat- ment programs or other relevant health and social service pro- grams, education on the impor- tance and proper use of bleach to clean needles, and condoms to stop the spread of HIV infection and AIDS. “This potential for a_ rapid spread of HIV infection among injection drug users and their sey- ual partners warrants a vigorous Tesponse,’’ said Campbell. “We hope that this project will provide new information concerning the effectiveness of prevention Strategies for this hard-to-reach population.”’ The federal contribution toward this initiative will bring the total two year commitment to $1.24 million for the injection drug user prevention program also sup- ported by the B.C. Ministry of Health, the City of Vancouver and the Greater Victoria Capital Regional District. Jn keeping with the federal gov- ernment’s national AIDS strategy, this pilot project is part of a research initiative, in partnership with provincial governments, tc address the issue of HEY infection among injection drug users and their sexual partners. Kaid’s choir to perform THE VANCOUVER Children’s Choir, led by Rupert Lang, will be performing a Christmas concert on Monday, Dec. 17 at Christ Church Cathedral. The program — called Legends and Carols: A Seasonal Celebra- tion — features traditional festive music and stories of the season from around the world.
