North Shore gymnasts
come home winners

FOUR LOCAL gymnasts came

‘home winners following the H.C.
Winter Games in Dawson Creek
. recently.

Elsa Cuadra and Sarah Baldwin,
both of North Vancouver and both
with the Flicka Gym Club, finished
12th and 13th in the girls 14 and
under division with total overall
scores of 31.45 and 31.10, respec-
tively.

Out of 32 gymnasts from all
zones of the province competing in
this division, | Baldwin ‘in. a first
appearance at the games managed
a third place award on the balance
beam with 8.00, while Cuadra was

fifth on uneven bars with 8.20 and |

sixth on floor exercise with 8.40.
Debbie. Setton, 17, of West
Vancouver. Recreation Centre,
came to her fourth games and
finished 5th overall in the
women’s 15 and over division with

a total of 28.90,

A disappointing routine on the
balance beam brought her. placing
down, ,

Michelle Hutchinson, 15, of
Flicka, was the other ‘local com-
petitor in that division, but only
competed on vault. ;

The Vancouver-North Shore
zone men,. however, came’ back
with silver medals finishing with a
total of. 132.50 behind the Fraser
Valley zone.

Ross” Cooper. 18, and Ryan
Saklofsky, 16, both of North Van-
couver but members at the West
Vancouver Recreation Centre club,
came sixth all-around and 10th
with totals of 44.55 and 42.60,
respectively.

In Saklofsky’s first games he
managed second place awards on
floor exercise 8.35 and vault 8.45.

Vancouver, but from the
Richmond: Gym Club, came 15th
in the division with 39. 40 for his
first games.

In the younger division, Darjan
Marovec, 13, of West Vancouver
Recreation Centre, was 2mh with
33.45.

Coach Bill Ogmundson Iced the
boys while on crutches with a heel
injury.

Next competition for the. gym-

nasts is the B.C, Championships : ‘a

April 8 to 10 at BCIT in Burnaby.
