Diabetic support
available locally

A SUPPORT group for d'abetics
is now in action on the North
Shore and new members are need-
ed to ensure its success,

The group was formed to assist
diabetics and their families and
friends, and to provide informa-
tion to anyone interested in finding
out more about the disease.

Responding to the need express-
ed by local diabetics, the staff of
the diabetic clinic at Lions Gate
Hospital assisted in organizing the
meetings.

The group brings in speakers
such as sports personalities who
have learned to cope with diabetes
in their active lives, and people
who discuss such subjects as diet
and progress in treating diabetes.

Following the speaker is an in-
formal period, Snack-Time, when
diabetics have a chance to talk to
one another and exchange ideas.

The group has plans for fund
raising for such projects as sending
a young girl or boy to diabetic
summer camp.

Group meetings are held at
Lions Gate Hospital, seminar
room one, at the back of the cafe-
teria on the main floor. The next
meeting will be held on Wednes-
day, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Jim
Taylor will be speaking.

A driver can be arranged for any
diabetic without transportation.
