THE VANCOUVER Symphony
Orchestra is inviting the public to a
free open house concert at the Or-
pheum Jan. 6at 8 p.m.

The open house concert has been
designed to reach those who do not
regularly attend VSO events. One
hour prior to the concert and dur-
ing intermission, broasasters
from QM/FM will be on hand in
the Orpheum lobby to conduct live
interviews with musicians and au-
dience members.

Members of the VSO's staff will
also be present to dispense infor-
mation and answer questions
about the orchestra and to
distribute literature about coming
VSO events. Free refreshments will
also be available.

members of the orchestra in
Rossini’s Overture to La Gazza
Ladra, Enesco’s Roumanian
Rhapsody. No. 1, Shostakovich's
Tea for Two Foxtrot, and
Tohaikovsky’s (812 Overture.

A number of soloists will join
Maestro Akiyama and the VSO
throughout the concert. VSO prin-
cipal flutist Camille Churchfield
will be heard in the final move-
ment of Mozart's Concerto for
Flute and Orchestra in G Atajor;
VSO pianist Linda-Lee Thomas
will play the last movement of
Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2
in B Flat Major and soprano Erica
