30 - Weduesday, August 6, 1986 - North Shore News LA CAGE AUX FOLLES RETURNS French comedy keeps ‘em LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, the in- ternationally-acclaimed Broadway musical comedy that won six 1984 Tony Awards including Best Musical, comes to the Qucen Elizabeth Theatre Aug. 26 until Sept. 6. Starring Peter Marshall and Keene Curtis, La Cage aux Folles is based on Jean Poiret’s long- running French comedy. It opened Aug. 21, 1984 at the Palace Theatre on Broadway, where it continues to break box- office records, playing to en- thusiastic, sold-out audiences. The West Coast edition of the musical played to critical acclaim and record audiences during the summer of 1984 in San Francisco, and is currently playing at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. In La Cage Aux Folles, Marshall portrays Georges, the nightclub owner and emcee of the lavish St. Tropez club La Cage Aux Folles, Keene Curtis portrays Albin, Georges’ mentor and the glamorous, flamboyant star of the nightclub. Marshall is best-known as the host of the popular television game show Hollywood Squares, but has previously performed in the Broadway musicals Skyscraper, Bye, Bye Birdie, and Anything Goes. Curtis played Daddy War- bucks in the musical Annie on Broadway and in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and in 1971 won a Tony Award for his performance in the musical The Rothschilds, Produced by Allan Carr, who has won much acclaim for his many film productions, including Grease, the largest-grossing movie musical in film history, he marked his first Broadway production with La Cage Aux Folles, winning the EXPO 86 SHOOT Fair photography RANDY BRADLEY has been photographing the 1986 World Exposition site in Vancouver since shortly after the ground was broken in 1983, History Imagined is an exhib- ition of assembled images taken by Bradley during the gestation period of the fair and will be on view at Presentation House Gallery in the Gibson room, from Aug. 8 to Sept. 7. The photographs in History Imagined can only be considered ‘“*documentary’’ by definition alone. Most evident are Bradley’s ref- erences tO man’s compulsion throughout history toward monument-building and to the sensitivity of felt aspiration, whether realized or forgotten along the way. Bradley was the only photographer who systematically documented the Expo site development during its gestation period.
