The Aztecs of Mexico and the
Maoris of New Zealand also are
said to have discovered papermak-
ing independently.

Today, millions of pounds of
paper are used daily for newspa-
pers, magazines and office re-
quirements.

But it is fun — and educational
— to go back to the old ways of

creating paper, learning the dif-
ferent types of paper for use in
nainting, silk-screen, stationery
and books.

Martin Borden, a graduate of
the Emily Carr School of Art, will
lead a two-day workshop August 5
and 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
the Senior Citizens’? Activity Cen-
tre in West Vancouver.

Everybody is welcome, but they
should bring along a lunch and
wear old clothes and comfortable
shoes.
