To the dozens of volunteers for TAGG who worked so long and hard to bring about a change for the better — my deepest and heartfelt appreciation. To the newly elected, or re- elected, school trustees - my best wishes for a year or rebuilding, renewed efforts to end conflict and con- fromtation, increased open discussion and consultation with parents, and a selfless, common sense approach to managing our $54 milhon school budget. Doug Vincent North Vancouver ss. 8 Dear Editor: The past few weeks have been a difficult tame for many of us. We have seen our community divided on issues in education, and posi- tions have been taken that have led to confrontation. However, it pleases me that people in North Vancouver have shown, through the can- didates they have elected to serve them on the North Van- couver School Board, that they support those who prefer cooperation (o con- frontation. i sincerely appreciate the support I received in the last school board election, and would like to thank especially friends and supporters who gave of ther time and effort to work on my behalf Over the coming year there mays be concerns in educa- tion that you wish to discuss. Please feel free to contact me at the School Board Office (987-8141) so that we can keep open lines of com- municauion between the com- munity and the school trustees. Verna Smelovsky N. John Braithwaite Alderman - elect., N. Van City see Dear Editor: To the School Board Voters in the District of North Vancouver: Please accept nry thanks for your support and hard work over the past eight years. | am sorry we weren’t successful this tume around. It is not totally surprising when you realize that this election was fought on party political issues and_ their games, not on educational concerns. I have always been of the opinion that education issues which affect all our lbves should be void of party political tssues. Education of the young is far too impor- ant. They are the citizens of tomorrow who will be gover- ning our lives in the future. Frank C. One can only look at things per- spectively -and compre- hensively, to be more adept to the tune ‘‘the next time it comes around again on the guitar.’”” 1 would like to see more people involved in politics. It’s not such a hard game to play, in fact the rules are quite simple. Think about it. Ask questions. Get involved, and as Dr. Tim says, ‘*Turn on, Tune In and Take Over.”’ The turnout of registered voters in North Vancouver City was 13.5%. How many more potential voters weren’t registered? The time is now, the place is here, See you later, I’m going for a beer.
