10 ~ Sunday, August 22, 1993 - North Shore News INQUIRING REPORTER THE TELEPHONE directory is just that, a directory of telephone numbers, but it has a much greater potential, With the inclusion of postal codes it could be a valuable household reference book. People wouid no longer have to go to the post office to look in the postal code direc- tory, when full mailing addresses could be accessed at their finger tips. However, a spokesman for BC Tel ex- plained that the main fault of such an endeavor would be the financial cost — both in terms of including more pages in the phone book for the additional space that postal codes would take, and in having the resources te check that the postal code information is accurate. Granted, it would be an enormous undertaking (o initi- afte, but once it was in place it would require little, if any, additional expense to maintain. And it would pro- vide an important customer service for which its value cannot be measured in dollars and cents. Would you like to see postal codes included in the phone book?
