After witnessing numerous acci- dents at the intersection of Keith Road and Mountain Highway, one which involved her own husband, Hills, a Lynn Valley resident, has written to both local MLA Jack Davis and North Vancouver District Mayor Marilyn Baker ask- ing that something be done about the problem. In the letter, which appeared in the Sept. 28 issue of the North Shore News, Hills wrote, ‘‘Keith Road is a lead-on to the highway, and it seems unbelievable that we have traffic turning left_: including buses, across highway traffic.” “Lam writing...in the hope that something is done before someone is killed.*’ Residents living near the in- tersection say they are tired of hearing the constant sound of squealing brakes. “It’s ridiculous, Every time I hear tires screeching I hold up my hands to my ears,’’ said Lou Ken- nedy, who lives on nearby Bruce Street..“‘And during rush hour it’s even worse — it’s unreal.’” Kennedy says motorists driving OWNER/OPERATOR HOMEOWNERS © TENANTS © CONDOMINIUM » BUSINESS « TRAVEL * AUTO "Tyan Valley "Insurance Agency Ltd. 8171 Mountain Higtiway, North Vancouver V?7K 2H4 JERRY GANGUR - (LIFE CONSULTANT) (NOTARY PUBLIC) YOU'LL SEE ULTRASIGHT LONSDALE OPTICAL 1529 LONSDALE AVE. Alex Milek, traffic technologist for the District of North Van- couver, reported a slight increase in the number of accidents at Keith Road and lower Mountain High- way in 1983, but by 1986 only two accidents occurred there. “We've done a number of things to improve driver visibility, in- cluding trimming bushes. and shrubs on the southwest corner of lower Mountain Highway, which has contributed to improving traf- fic safety,”’ said Milek. He said, however, that more could be done to improve the site, and that responsibility lies with the ME BETTER When you try on a pair of budget-priced fashion frames or contact fenses 1 DISCOUNT ’ with this ‘ad — 980-8613 341 © IHOVA « SVHSWVO « AUSTIaMAr provincial highways department. Hills, meanwhile, says building an overpass at the intersection of Mountain Highway and Keith Road, and a road between the North ; Shore Winter Club and Kodak could solve the problem, but it’s a matter of moucy. “When someone's killed it will” become a priority,”’ she said.
