Attic fire fought in W. Van ROOFING work is the suspected cause of a fire that broke out in the attic of a Benbow Road home in West Vancouver on Saturday. Roofers had been sealing the home's drain gutters with a propane- tuelled torch about five hours before the fire broke out ar approni- mately 5 p.m. A West Vancouver Fire and Rescue crew responded to the call and upon entering the home discovered that the fire had spread to the attic space of the older home. Fire crews employed an “impact” nozzle — normally used to break through walls and for hard-to-reach arcas — to ‘slow the firc’s progress uatil firefighters could remove portions of the roof and expose the blaze. Damage was caused to roof and cciling joists, roof sheeting and shin- gics. Because fire crews removed or covered much of the furniture and contents of the house with waterproof tarpaulins, wacer damage as minimal.
