What to do with doggie doo-doo From page I've noticed the bags of Poop around too. A few days ago I was walking on the Seaview Trail out near Horseshoe Bay and I spotted a bag of poop by the path. When I squawked my disap- provai to my friend Danna, she advised me that people pick up their dog poop in the bags and park it temporarily by the path so that they don’t have to carry it during their walk. “But th always pick it up on their way back”, she assured me. (Danna’s such an optimist.) I suppose they find waik- ing with a bag of poop unpleasant, but if you ask me, they’re missing an opportuni- ty. Carrying a bag load of dog poop is like waving a white flag. It’s a signal to non-dog lovers that you're a responsi- ble citizen. No kidding, I’ve had perfect strangers pat me on the back and thank me for cleaning up after my dogs. Anyway, according to Wendy, some of these poop parkers either forget or out- right neglect to retrieve their p packages on their way ack. And there are dog own- ars out there who actually ‘ow their bags of do into the bush (or what they > think is the bush). Just ask’ Wendy’s friend Lorraine, ~ whose house borders the canyon, She finds bags of .poop in her yard everyday. “I'm telling you” says Wendy, they'l ‘be better off -THE following is.a . brief selection of volun- : teer opportunities avail- i able through North leaving the poop where it falls. At least then it would have a chance to decompose.” Exceltent point. When I'm in the canyon (and I'm sure Pll catch hell from someone for admitung this) I use plastic bags to pick up the poop. But instead of ning off the bag, I toss the poop (not the bag) as far as I can into the woods so that it chance to decompose. ically, | only use the bag as a protective glove for throw- ing the poop. I then toss the bag into the next garbage bag T come upon. Of course, that method works in the canyon, where there aren’t many people around and it’s fairl: densely wooded. I’m not sure, howev- er, that it’s a good idea to be hurling, poop around at the instance. There are just t00 many people walking their dogs there, and to be honest, not all of them look athletic. OK, so that takes care of Neil, Leslie, Wendy, and Lorraine. Now, I’m forgetting some- body... Oh yeah, my Mom, who thinks that instead of ranting on endlessly about dog poop I should write about something really mad- dening, like daughters who are never home and who don’t return your ails. Done. OK, it's spring now. Tax returns have been filed, the flowers are blooming, and it’s time to cheer up everyone.
