THE quiet of a West Vancouver neighborhood was dis-
turbed last week when police armed with a search warrant
took dogs into a secluded residence to search for
weapons. They didn’t have to search too hard. Thirteen
weapons — nine handguns, two shotguns and owo cifles
> were confiscated in addition to a large quantity of
ammunition. The guns in themselves were not illegal
since the owner had permits. West Vancouver Police con-
fiscated them anyway believing that in doing so they were
protecting not only the safety of the public but the safe-

ty of the owner. A court will determine the validity of

allegations involving threatening, behavior and the ulti-

mate dispusition of the weapons. But a question remains, Just how many guns does a
person need in West Vancouver? Or anywhere? Yes, the permit process is complex, frus-
trating and, we hope, thorough but when does a collection become an arsenal? We asked
if you thought there should be limits and a huge a majority said ves. Our questions
always invite a Yes/No answer, but on this issue 31% of you insisted we list a third cat-

egory: No guns at all.
