Next week this column will concentrate on some of the stronger material, but perhaps the following notes are a truer reflec- tion of the wildly varying range of this year’s Fringe score. @ Dawn’s Light. Oh dear. | know | ought to like this earnest little morality tale for its good intentions but | confess | spent most of this play‘s long 60 minutes praying for an eclipse. Billed by its author, Theatre West Van alumnus Nancy Elliot- Lilley, as a comedy/drama/fantasy, it has precious little of the first two but is certainly quite fantastic. { won’t mention the directors by name but someone should tell them theatre is not the same medi- um as film and a parable is not necessarily a play. I felt sorry for West Van actor Lisa Marie Chavatrie whose erno- tional honesty suggested she might shine given a real script. © Edge #3. The Firehall Arts Centre is a fringe venue for the first time this year, hosting a number of dance performances as well as theatre. | had a great time at Edge #3 if only because the variety of dance on display left me little time to question my own lack of euryth- mic sensibility. The extracts presented by The Holy Body Tattoo (from Poetry & Apocalypse) and Judith Garay (Blind Impulse) both left me wanti- ng more of a context with which to assess the pieces. Perhaps my linear self wanted a beginning and end.
