Engine-speed sensing, variable-
assist power steering is standard on
the MPV, providing maximum
assist at low speeds and a steady,
solid feel at hightvay speeds.

The brakes in the MPV are front
ventilated disc and rear drum. A
dual hydraulic circuit with a load
proportioning valve maintains
braking balance under various load
conditions.

The interior of the MPV is
designed to carry up to seven pas-
sengers in car-like comfort and
style. The MPV has a flat main
passenger compartment floor with
a raised luggage/cargo platform.

The seven passenger arrange-
ment offers three rows of space in
a 2+2+43 configuration. The five
passenger version offers two rows

of seating in a 2+3 configuration. —

For access to the rear of the seven
passenger MPV from the front
seats, a wide walk-through area
has been provided.

Even in the seven passenger con-
figuration there is ample cargo
room behind the third seat. This
cargo area may be expanded by
folding the third seat forward
against the back of the second
seat.

This offers an advantage over
other vehicles in this class in which
the third seat must be removed and
left behind to expand the cargo
area. The Mazda engineers chose
this arrangement because it pro-
vides practical, yet flexible, seating
that MPV buyers can use every
day.

In addition, the rear seats in the
seven passenger version fold down
to form a large flat surface for
sleeping or carrying bulky cargo.

To further expand the cargo
area of the five and seven passen-
ger models, the second seat is easi-

ly removable, and the third seat
also may be removed using simple
hand tools.

Access to the rear passenger/
cargo area is through a hinged side
door that opens to nearly 90
degrees and,a top-hinged tailgate
that opens at bumper level for easy
loading of heavy objects. The
hinged side door offers several ad-
vantages over the sliding side door
commonly found on this class of
vehicle.

Among these advantages are: a
larger opening than a comparably
sized sliding door, lighter weight,
lack of unsightly tracks in the inte-
rior and bodyside, more attractive
and aerodynamic styling, easier

operation, reduced wear and
vibration and increased interior
room.

For the driver, the MPV offers
excellent visibility and comfort, in
addition to proper ergonomics.

flanked by fuel level and coolant
temperature gauges.

All indicator and warning lights
are housed within the instrument
cluster.

The controls for the heating,
ventilation and optional air condi-
tioning are located in the centre of

the audio controls, which include
as standard an AM/FM radio with
auto-reverse cassette and four
