YOUR CHRISTMAS
TURKEY could be hazar-
dous to your health. Follow
these steps recommended by
the Vancouver Health Dept.

for a safer, happier Holiday
Season:

Don’t stuff the turkey the
night before the meal in order
to save time. If you make the
dressing the night before,
refrigerate it separately and
stuff the bird just before it
goes into the oven. Use a
meat thermometer to avoid
undercooking.

Put your turkey in the
refrigerator or freezer soon
after you buy it. Remember
to wash your hands before
preparing foods.

Use kitchen equipment
with smooth, non-porous
surfaces. These are easiest to
keep clean.

Keep hot foods hot and
cold foods cold. In the
refrigerator or freezer, at
temperatures below 40F
(4.4C), bacterial growth is
slowed down or stopped.

Thaw frozen meat, fish,
eggs and poultry in the
refrigerator or under cold
running water, NOT at room
temperature.

Never let cooked food
stand for hours at room
temperature.

Use clean eggs without
cracks.

After your bird is cooked,
remove the dressing and serve
it separately.

many stuffed nylon dolls.
