Hard times don’t deter cancer fund donors

A 25 PER CENT increase in
donations over 1981 was the
record achieved ty the West
Vancouver branch of the
Canadian Cancer Society
during the annual Cancer
Fund Campaign last month --
while donations collected by
the North Vancouver branch

also reached an_  ali-time
high.

coming in last week, the

West Van figure stood at

over $80,000. The tally to
that point was $60,000 from
residential and _ business
donors, $16,200 from
apartments and $3,895 from
the Daffodil Day drive.

“It is a remarkable
achievement in a period of
financial restraint,”’ said
West Van campaign
chairman Jean Reid. “The
credit must go to the many
diligent, hardworking and
conscientious area chair-

man, zone captains and
canvassers, with special
thanks to contributors for
their outstanding support.”

North Van's record total
was also $80,000 -— = sur-
passing the campaign target
of $60,000 by 33 per cent.

Of that total, $70,000
came from door-to-door
canvassing alone. The
remaining $10,000 came
from apartment mail drops,
“Dear Neighbor” envelopes
left at homes, North Van

businesses, the Legion and

Daffodil Days. ’

“It took many, many hours
of dedication and hard work
on the part of the volunteers
involved to bring about such
a fantastic and rewarding
result,” said Anne Hallstein,
North Van campaign
chairman.
