Members of the North
Shore Flicka gym club led
the B.C. junior team to a
first place. finish in the
Western Canadian gym-
nastics championships held
last weekend in Winnipeg.

Anita Botnen, from
Flicka, placed first allaround

and teammate Vai Smith
took second place all
around.

Other members on the
winning team were Barb
Branda (Flicka), Alana
Manning (Ethic), and Barb
Kerpchuck (Pheonix).

Sears lose out in final

After four weeks of play
the North Vancouver Sears
hockey team finished ahead
of all three other Sears stores
in the Lower Mainland
Participating in an in-house
tournament.

But Wednesday night, the
team lost a 11-7 decision to
the Burnaby Sears team to
give them a second place
finish in’overall.

The North Vancouver
team had beaten the Bur-
naby team in all three league
and exhibition games prior

to Wednesday's final but
North Van goalie Dan
Sheehy said “they -just

outplayed us.”
Sheehy admitted having a

bad night and said _ the
Burnaby team deserved to
win.

Wingers Rick Kent and
Lloyd Larsen were “ the
leading scorers for the North

Van team on Wednesday,
scoring three and two goals
respectively.

Next year it is hoped that
six Sears stores will par-
ticipate in the competition.

The Vancouver Rowing
Club are offering in-
troductory courses in the
sport of rowing, starting
Monday, May 5.

The courses will be five
week blocks, May through
September. For %$60.00
registrants will receive 15
hours of instruction from 6
to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and
Wednesdays or Tuesdays
and Thursdays. Classes will
be held at the Vancouver
Rowing Club in Coal Har-
bour, Stanley Park. For
