Dear Editor: Being the ‘‘she’’ of the Lynn Valley Study committee to whom J.R. Happer refer- red in his article in the North Shore News, 2nd March 1977, 1 feel I have to reply to his comments. I realize that Mr. Hopper ‘cannot be blamed for taking the comment ‘nothing for youngsters to do’’ out ‘of. context, as the background — behind this comment did not appear in the News. How- ever, if he had taken the trouble to read the. study — _ Report he would have seen. that.in the study we: found there to be adequate formal organized activities _ for youth. This is not necessarily what all youth, or even any .. youth, want all of the time. The great need is_ for informal social activities for: young people. In Lynn Valley there is a singular: lack of informal “settings “: where youth can meet and do their. own thing. In response to the idea. of the Militia solving our . problems, Forbes Avenue is. a good distance from Lynn — ‘Valley and many young people do not have ready access to any but public transportation, which does. not. provide a convenient .service between the two points. In addition I would think it is debatable whether training youth in weapon handling and blasting will contribute toa decrease in delinquency. Sue Gedge Lynn Valley Study Committee.
