Candidates Dear Editor: The newly-formed Courthouse Area Residents Association (CARA) has endersed six can- didates, including two incumbents, for next Saturday’s North Van- couver City election. The six include incumbents Stella Jo Dean and Ralph Hall, former alderman Rod Clark and newcomers Bill Bell, Bob Davis and Jim Houston. CARA polled all 12 candidates on a number of issues of interest to the city and our neighborhood in particular and, from the answers we received, we believe these can- didates have the best interests of the city at heart. It’s time for a change on coun- cil. The Park and Tilford development, the proposed highrise at Lonsdale Quay, the bid to develop Mosquito Creek Park and the attempted rezoning of Block 220, park reserve at supported Ridgeway and East 23rd Street are examples of how council is being pressured to sel] out to developers. We must have people on council who are committed io putting the interests of the residents first. CARA was formed three months ago, following introduction of the Courthouse Area Land Use Plann- ing Study. Residents of the area are con- cerned about the increase of com- muter traffic along East 23rd and Grand Boulevard between Lons- dale and 19th Street and wish to protect existing greenspace and single-family zoning. In 1983, more than 200 court- house area residents signed a peti- tion protesting a city planning department proposal to take Block 220, which forms part of Green- wood Park, out of park reserve for sale as housing lots.
