Weeping trees are a soft and graceful contrast to trees - fj
with upright foliage. There are Betula Pendula -

“Youngii”, (25° height) has the attractive white, peeling 5.
bark of the Silver Birch and light yellow catkins in ,
spring. It's graceful arching stems with smatl bright

green leaves rustle in the breeze. The weeping pear,

Pyrus salicifolia “Pendula”, (22°) with silver-grey leaves
and white flowers makes a beautiful focal point for

either a white or mixed color scheme. A notable

weeping evergreen to consider is Cedrus deodora

“Aurea” (20'). For spring color try the cherry Prunus |
Subhirtella “Pendula” (27°) with it’s pink flowers, or, for
more disease-resistance, a weeping crab apple, such as ©
Malus “Echtermeyer” (12') or Malus “Louise” (4’}. The

fast growing Siberian peashrub also has a weeping =”
form, Caragana arborescens “Pendula” (18°) which has
striking racemes of yellow flowers. There are even
weeping forms of dogwoods (Cornus) and maples

(Acer) avatlable in nurseries. In limited spaces, ths ~
dwarf weeping willow (6°), Salix caprea “Kilmarnock,

can be used. It has pussy willow-type catkins in spring:
and an umbrella-like shape. While there is a smaller
selection of weeping trees, vines or shrubs such as -
Wisteria sp. cr Cotoneaster “Hybridus Pendulas”, may

be pruned and trained into weeping forms
