Gas soaking thief hits again Anna Marie D'Angelo News Reporter dangelo@usnews.com HE is called the gasoline robber. But he doesn’t stcal gas. He uses it as a terrifying weapon. On Tuesday, the gasoline robber struck for a fourth time in North Vancouver within the past three weeks. According to the North Vancouver RCMP, a man walked into the Dial-a-Movie store in the 453 Dollarton Hwy. He looked at the new movie releases for a few minutes and then sprayed a male employce with gasoline from a water bottle. Police say the bortle was full cf gas. The suspect flicked on a lighter and threatened to light the employee on fire. The employee handed over approximately $600. The employee was forced into a back room. The suspect ripped the phone out of the wall betore leaving. On April 1, a clerk at North Shore Market, 76] Lonsdale ave., was squirted with gasoline in a similar crime. In this inci- dent, the male clerk refused to give up money and struggled with the suspect. The suspect left without cash. Police believe the man may have gotten away in a waiting vehicle. On March 29, a robber poured gas on a Travelodge counter- top and threatened to light the place on fire. The desk clerk at the Marine Drive motel gave up $200 and his waller before being forced into a storage room. . On March 18, a robber wearing Sarge women’s sunglasses threw a plastic cup full of gasoline una store employee at Rogers Video at 972 Marine Dr. The robber held up a lighter and threat- ened to set the woman on fire, The woman was forced into the store’s back bathroom. North Van Const. Heidi Hoffman said police were not sure if there is only one gas robber despite the similarities in crimes and suspect descriptions.
