In school that is. So, with
free time weighing, heavy
upon parental al shaulders, it’s
time to down tools and down
some lunch.

Lunch menu: An exhaus-
tive tour around Southeast
Asia. Specializes in noodles of
all description: Ramen,
Udon, Shanghai-stvle, Hong
Kong-style, Japanese fried
thin, Tan Tan and Vermicelli.
Also offers a reasonable cross-
section of well-known dishes
from Japan (sushi, tempura,
teriyaki) China (Hor Pot,
sweet and sour, fried rice)
and Vietnam (mainly noodle
soups).

A quartet of curry rounds
out the menu,

Food quality: Noodle
soups are substantial and
come loaded with good fresh
ingredients. A sampled
Sapporo Miso Ramen was
served in a bowl big enough
to do laundry in. Jammed
with been sprouts, thin
Japanese noodles, bam
shoots and assorted vegeta-
bles. Add $1.50 to any lunch
order and you get Thai chick-
en wings, California sushi
rolls and deep-fried spring
rolls.

Service: No waiting.

Price: Soups $4 to $7;
other main menu items range
from about $5 up to $12.

Sandeck: No.

Parking: Lonsdale street-
side. If you’re stuck, try near
the employment centre on
15th. Lots of cars move in
and out of spots around there
quickly.

Overview: A new bloom
from the Japanese culinary
seed sown by Bara Japanese
restaurant, Kitasushi celebrat-
ed its grand opening in
Bara’s old Westview shopping
centre locale on Aug. !.

The original bloomed
briefly then departed — the
victim perhaps of last year’s
highway project from hell,
under which Westview mer-
chants had to suffer through
the customer-killing one-two
punch of Westview overpass
construction and the Second
Narrows bridge renovation.

The combination rendered
access to Westview — already
far from customer-friendly —
akin to travelling to war-torn
Bosnia.
