and sentenced without knowing
about it, or having a chance to..

occurrence, does seem to counter
basic civil liberties. .

Surveillance cameras are efficient
tools used by authoritarian govezn-
ments and corporations to maintain
control over citizens and workers.

But it’s at the expense of privacy
and basic civil liberties. If you think

, that’s an exaggeration, why not

extend photo radar to other traffic

offences?

ously breaking the law. ©

In fact, automatic cameras could
catch a variety of offenders. We'd

_ save the cost of hiring police offi-

cers, and perhaps even judges
(you've been snapped in the act,
what's your excuse?).

Though the jury is still out on’
whether photo radar actually increas-
es road safety-(despite what the gov-
ernment tells you), the basic issues -
of privacy, civil liberties, and free-
dom from government interference
won't be decided by a statistical
review. | ;
