The $3-million Burrard Cleaner No. 9 will be based on the southeastern coast of Vancouver Island. The Marco TOR-7S5R tractor oil recovery vessel was built by West Coast Manly Shipyard in Van- couver. Said Burrard Clean general manager Martyn Green, ‘‘It has versatility, high speed, a large storage capacity, and can handle high seas both in transit to the site and for operations at the site.** Michael Funding provided to Burrard Clean by its consortium members will increase the consortium’s abil- ity to respond to oil spills occur- ring in B.C.’s coastal waters. By the end of 1992 Burrard Clean expects to have 10 oil spill and containment vessels based in the Vancouver area, on Vancouver Island and at other locations along the B.C. coast. Chevron Canada Ltd., Imperial oil Ltd., Petro-Canada Products, HIGH TECH expansion program being under- Shell Canada Products Ltd. and Trans Mountain Pipe Line Co. Ltd. make up the consortium. It was established in 1976 and has a mandate to respond to marine petroleum spills for its members.
