Blaze damages N. Van home FIRE DAMAGED a suite in a three-storey apartment building at 131 West 6th Street in the City of North Vancouver March 18. North Vancouver City Fire Department was called to the apart- ment at approximately 1:30 p.m. The fire was confined to the bedroom, causing heavy damage. The blaze siso caused heat and smoke damage throughout the suite. The fire was started by the occupant of the suite, who was look- ing for a key case under the bed with a lighter, the fire department reported. The occupant attempted unsuccessfully to extinguish the underside of the bed which caught fire. Fire contained in NV suite NORTH VANCOUVER City Fire Department was called in to contain 2 blaze which caused heavy heat and smoke damage to 3 suite at 241 St. Andrews Ave. Tuesday. The fire department was called at approximately 7:30 a.m. The occupant was asicep with his bedroom door closed when the fire broke out. Because the door was closed, the occupant was sav- ed from ssphyxiation, the fire department reported. The occupant escaped through a bedroom window. lavestigators have not established the cause of the fire which started in a chesterfield in the living room, Lt. Inspector Dave Burgess said if there hsd been a smoke alarm in the suite, (he oc- cupant would have been alerted to the fire earlier. Oliver Stephen Spilborghs was originally charged with theft in connection with 2 Dec. 18, 1988 incideat in which electronic equipment was stolen from Channel One Video Corp. He was also charged with possession of stolen property after (wo stolen B.C. licence plates were seized. Appearing before Judge J.B. Paradis, Spilborghs was fined $400 on the theft charge and $200 on the possession of stolen property charge. {889 .
