to relocate

CITY DEVELOPERS are being
encouraged to assist tenants in
relocating when their projects re-
quire the demolition of rental
housing units in North Vancouver
City.

“There are not any real pro-
blems to developers to help with
displaced tenants,’’ said Ald. Bar-
bara Sharp, ‘“‘whether it’s one
(housing unit) or 20.”" ~ Ald. Bill
Bell said the motion was primarily
meant to show that ‘‘we care about
the tenants in our community,”’
and give direction to developers on
the direction of council.

concerned that the motion too
broadly defined the responsibilities
of the developer. ‘‘It’s an unfair
burden on the development com-
munity,’’ he said.

City administrator Gerry Brewer
said the motion would not affect
the awarding of rezoning perniits.

“T hope it is clear in the minds
of all council members, there can
be no reference to this (during
times of rezoning),’’ he said.

Ald. Braithwaite said the motion
was not meant to be used as a
rezoning tool.
