House prices across Canada are continuing to rise significantly, according to the Royal Trust survey of house prices. Most startling increases have been in British Columbia, with pnces up as much as 35 per cent during the eight-month survey penod. Bungalow pmces jumped 34.9 per cent in Kermnsdale since June 1979, from $107,500 to $145,000. In West Vancouver, a similar bungalow now costs 33.9 per cent more, from $88,500 to $118.500,) and in North 24.5 per cent more, from $79,500 to $99. 000 Kelowna prices were up 17 6 per cent, those in Victoma, 15 2 percent Vancouver, Pnees for larger, two- storey homes also rose dramatically In North Vancouver, there was a 35.2 Noe ee SE tod 3 ‘a mie hty per cent increase, from $102,800 to $139,000. Kerrisdale followed with a 29.8 per cent increase, $169,500 to $220,000. The smallest increase was recorded in Richmond, 9.3 per cent, from $119,000 to $130,000. Across Canada, the picture is as follows In the Atlantic provinces, prices for a typical bungalow were generally on an upward chmb, with Bndgewater. NS registering the biggest increase of & 6 per cent since last June, from $40,500 to $44,000. There was also a general increase in the cost of larger homes, although in eight Quebec cities, prices remained static. Largest increase was in St. Lambert, up 15 per cent from $80,000 to $92,000. In Ontano, bungalow pmces were the most active in Sudbury, up 11.8 per cent, from $51,000 to $57,000 Sault Ste. Mane followed with a yump of 5.6 per cent, from $54,000 to $57,000 Bigger increases were seen in Ontario's larger homes In Etobicoke, oa two-storey, four-bedroom house now sells for $126,000, a 16 per cent increase. London, Sudbury. Thornhill and Sault Ste Mane also saw in- creases of from 6 to & per cent. In the Prairies, Winnipeg pnces showed little change. Regina prices were up 3.3 per cent for a bungalow, 3 per cent for the larger home, and Saskatoon prices were up 5.3 per cent for the bungalow, from %$66,000 to $609,500, and 4.8 per cent for the larger home, $105,000 to $110,000. There was more upward movement in Alberta house pnces. In Calgary, increases for a bungalow were as high as 16.3 per cent in Mt. Royal. from $120,000 to $139,500, and 15 1 per cent in Bonavista Parkland, from $93,000 to $107,000. increases for the Price larger homes were as high as 18.6 per cent in the Marlborough NE distmet of $99,500 to $118,000.
