GYMNASTS TRAINING with North Vancouver's 1988 Best Ever Program qualified for Canada's Elite group at the first national selection meet of the 1986-'87 season held Dec. 5 to 7 at Toron- to’s Senaca College. Only Canada’s top 30 gymnasts are eligible for the high perfor- mance group, and only they have a chance to make the Canadian team that will go to the ‘87 world championships in Rotterdam in October. Tracy Wilson, 17, of North Vancouver was the top B.C. gym- nast coming eighth all-around with a total of 72.25, She takes over the position as top B.C. gymnast formerly oc- cupied by the recently retired San- dra Botnen. Wilson came fourth on floor ex- ercise with a score of 18.45, sev- enth on balance beam with 17.85 and 10th on uneven bats with 18.15. The scores qualified her for a December competition in England. North Vancouver’s Janice Rod- die, who is an assistant program coach, will travel as Wilson’s coach . Wilson also made the Canadian team competing in the Coupe de Excellence meet to be held in Mon- treal-in April. The two meets will give her two international competi- tions prior to the Canadian Championships in May. Jeanette Hrubes, 15, from Peachland, did exceptionally well at the Toronto meet and finished 23rd overall in her first year as a senior gymnast. Her last placing in the competi- tion was 52nd. Hrubes was 10th on the balance beam event with 17.55. Kristin Wingfield, 16, managed to hold her position from last year to finish 26th with 68.25. The other three gymnasts from the Best Ever program were not too far behind the elite group.
