26 - Wednesday, December 3, 1926 - North Shore News MAINTAINING ITS ‘quaint village atmosphere’’ will be foremost in the minds of architects when West Vancouver's Dun- darave shopping area soon undergoes its revitalization pro- gram. Dundarave Business Association president Gordon Clark said the program could begin as early as next February, once final approval on funding is received from Vic- toria. The municipality has already given the local business merchants the green light to spend about $550,000 in the program. Repairs will be done in the area of parking, sidewalks, landscaping and new lighting for instance. ‘Parking has been a problem, but that’s one of the things our revitalization will address,’’ said Clark. “Access from customer parking areas to our shops will definitely be more accessible and better in- dicated.’” Clark noted Stong’s Market Ltd. has already opened a new parking . lot, which has taken some of the pressure off Marine Drive parking. “Stong’s has an ample parking area, so parking is more accessible now than it’s ever been,"* he said. Clark said one of the advantages to shopping in Dundarave is that merchants offer quality merchan- dise at affordable prices. He said the shopping area, which is about one block long, has all the services and products that consumers could want. “Dundarave is a really good ex- ample of a neighborhood shopping centre,"’ he said, noting that its main market is from 21s Street to the Caulfeild area. He added traffic has also in- creased from North Vancouver shoppers. “It’s not necessary for people to drive to Vancouver when good deals are here. I’ve seen quite a few sale signs go up for Christmas shopping,’’ he said. Clark said besides having the well-established businesses, Dun- darave has also been fortunate to attract new businesses. He said the most recent new store to open is Standard Fare, a kitchen and gift ware business. He said most of the 50 businesses in the area are owner- operated.
