THE WEST Vancouver Heritage Advisory Com-

mittee,

originally formed

in conjunction with

parallel committees in the City and District of
North Vancouver in 1979, submitted its formal
report to council Monday, providing an inventory
of buildings and sites they feel hold heritage

significance.

The three West Van
members, Bill McPhee, Olga
Ruskin and Doris Walton,
worked alongside represen-
talives from the other two
North Shore municipalities
for four years gathering in-
formation not only on
historic sites and structures
but also on the general
history of the North Shore.

The Committee noted in a
letter to council that while
theirs cannot be considered a
definitive survey, ‘‘it is a
good start in a field which
has been neglected until

Two of the areas deemed
historic by the Committee are
lower Caulteild and the
Transportation Centre at the
foot of 14th Street

The report calls the lower
Caulfeild area ‘‘an example
of fine, early residential plan
ning by Francis Caulfeild,”’

‘‘We’ve completed our
work but.... today is tomor-
row’s heritage,’’ said Ruskin,
urging council to consider
resurrecting the Heritage
Committee as she feels their
job is an ongoing one.
