Federal Fisheries officers were called there Wed- nesday, September 15, after neighbors had noticed oil in the water. The concern of fisheries officer Suzie Julian was that the spill was upstream of a fisheries incubation box in the river, although there were no signs of dead fish. The spot is the location of salmon enhancement work carried out by the North Shore Fish and Game Club. The oil was considered most likely to have come from a ruptured heating oil tank at a nearby home which had probably got into a storm sewer draining into a creek. Several of the neighbors on properties backing onto the creek checked their heating oil levels and some of them helped Julian by going door-to-door, asking Were you lucky? Several environmentally concerned residents are anxious about the possibilities of neighbors polluting the creek without even being aware of it, by having a rupture in an un- derground oil tank. Fisheries officer Juhan says: “It is something which is not actually their fault but it is the fault of the whole drainage system, with storm drains going mnght into creeks.
