In senior hockey DRILLERS won their seventh straight game in the North Vancouver Senior Recreational Hockey League Sunday, defeating B.C. Tel 6-0. Keith Gibson recorded his second shutout of the season for the Drillers, while the goals came in pairs from Jim Wise, Don Coates and Ray Matheson. In the other Sunday game, the Black Hawks beat the Flames 6-3, with John Payne scoring twice for the winners and Ai Klatt getting a pair for the losers. INTERMEDIATE In the intermediate league, second place got rather crowded as Hollyburn Lumber moved into a tie with the North Shore News and Cottrell by beating the News 5-3. All three teams have 4 and 3 records. The News got off to a quick start on goals by Mike Heiliger, Mike MacLean and Rob Miller in. the first period. But Chuck Low scored what proved to be the first of five unanswered Hollyburn goals early in the second. Mike Dungate and Larry Ziegler also scored for Hollyburn before the period was out and the score was tied 3-3 going into the. third period. Mike Dungate’s second | . goal put Hollyburn ahead 4- 3, and then, with the News enjoying a 2 man power play advantage, Les Finch scored: a spectacular short-handed goal for Hollyburn to put the game out of reach. In other games Friday, Larry’s Sports Shop showed why they are in first place, blasting the Canadians 12-1. Pat Rothenbush, leading scorer in. the league, led the way with four goals. Cottrell Forwarding beat Metro 6-2. Coniing up in the in- termediate league, Larry's plays Metro on December 4 at 9 p.m. and the Canadians and Hollyburn face off at 10:30. On Saturday it will be . Cottrell against the News at 8:45 p.m. That game should tidy up the second place fight a bit. In the senior league, the Drillers put their unbeaten record on the line in a game WV cyclist second | in national race BRENTY MUDRY of West Vancouver came close, but not close enough, in his bid for first place in the Canadian National Cycling Championship at Jericho Park last Sunday. Mudry led the race for the first seven laps of the ten lap contest, but then fell back with mechanical trouble. However he still managed to hang on for second place, only 30 seconds behind winner Ian Marson Vancouver. Finishing only 2'4 minutes back of Mudry was Andy Hansen from Deep Cove. Fred Rowan and Bruce. Nicholls, also from the North Shore, finished respectably as well. Rowan came in sixth and Nicholls ninth among the 30 or so starters. Last year's champion, Don Hodgson of Ontario, dropped out after six laps. of Seventh hat trick BOB Scurfield, a senior centre from North Van- couver, who plays on Western Michigan University’s hockey team, notched his seventh career hat trick in WMU's 10-5 loss to Bowling Green recently.
