As a= driver“of an
emergency vehicle I have a
responsibility to operate my
police car in the safest
manner possible. Am-
bulance drivers and drivers
of fire trucks also have the
same responsibility.

None of these vehicles are
of any use if they themselves
become invloved in an
accident responding to an
emergency. Although there
will be times when
emergency vehicles will

Seven gold medals
for Lee Grenon

Lee Grenon, a North Van
student, came up with seven
gold medals over the
weekend in swimming events
for the blind at the Canadian
championships for blind and
amputees in swimming and
track and field.

Grenon, who was a three
time bronze medal winner at
the Olympics for the
disabled this summer in
Holland, collected his wins
at the Lord Byng Pool in
Vancouver.

As a driver or pedestrian,
keep in mind that you too
also have a resposibility to
be alert at all times to a
sudden response by an
emergency vehicle and do
not ASSUME that the driver
of the emergency vehicle is
aware of your presence;
when in doubt pull to the
RIGHT AND STOP.

The drivers of these
vehicles are not only con-
centrating on arriving at the
scene but must also give
attention to the _ radio
dispatcher and other
vehicles en route.

A driver shall not follow
fire apparatus (trucks, cars -

etc.) closer than 150m or
drive or park within 150m of
the scene where fire ap-
paratus has stopped in
answer to a fire alarm.
Unless otherwise directed no
person shail drive over an
unprotected fire hose when
laid down at a fire or an
alarm of fire.

In any emergency
situation please allow
enough room for the free
movement of palice cars,
fire trucks, or ambulances.
People’s lives may be in
jeopardy!!

before any player can step
on the ice it is imperative
that CSA approved
protective equipment be
worn.
